Raise It

Raise It is a new simple process available in NSW public hospitals and health services to support you to raise concerns about your or your loved one’s condition getting worse. Raise It replaces the previous NSW Health escalation system called REACH. Raise It has the same basic purpose as REACH, giving patients, families and carers a way to escalate concerns when a person in hospital seems to be getting worse. Raise It adds a single Statewide number to call and a simpler 3 step process to escalate your concerns

How Raise It works

You know yourself or your loved one best.

If you’re worried you or a loved one’s condition is getting worse, follow the Raise It process.

Here’s how to get help fast if you are in a hospital or health service:

  1. Talk
Start by talking to a nurse, midwife, doctor or health worker about your concerns.
  2. Ask
Still concerned? Ask the nurse or midwife in charge for a clinical review.
  3. Call
If you are still worried, call NSW Health Raise It on 1800 777 333. A senior health worker will respond.

Interpreter access

If you need an interpreter when in hospital, ask your health worker.

There are equivalent patient-and-family escalation systems in several other Australian jurisdictions, though the names and how widely they apply vary. The closest equivalents currently operating are Queensland’s Ryan’s Rule, Western Australia’s Aishwarya’s CARE Call, South Australia’s “You’re worried, we’re listening”, the ACT’s CARE program, and the Northern Territory’s REACT; Victoria also has an Urgent Care Helpline, but it was initially rolled out in selected health districts rather than statewide.
